One of the funny (and infinitely interesting) things about the human mind is the fact that it tries to make sense out of random patterns, that it tries to make sense of chaos. A lot of the 'Hidden Mickeys' people see around Disney were not put there intentionally by the art department/imagineers, but are rather a random placement of objects which, given the circumstances - guests being at Disney and expecting to see Hidden Mickeys, appear to be Mickey heads. Some are quite a stretch of the imagination, others are more obvious. Sometimes people see what they want to see...

These are confirmed, 'stretch of the imagination' sightings.

Also included are erroneous secrets. Erroneous secrets can be urban legends that appear mysteriously and spread spontaneously in varying forms Urban legends make for very good storytelling. Erroneous secrets can also be stories that seem to be true and have been passed on so many times that they have the air of truth. Cast Members (and other employees) are not necessarily a good source of information about Disney. It's not that they deliberately lie, but many people at Disney have heard the same stories for so long, they've come to believe them as the truth. And as the old-timers leave the company through death or retirement, there's nobody around to correct them. So many of the myths about Club 33 are spread by well-meaning employees who think that what they've been told is true and don't know any better.

General
  1. Mickey can be seen overhead at every park except Epcot including Disneyland Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland. Look at the park map!
REPORTED: Patrick Jandorf 26 JUL 96
    WISHFUL THINKING: Eric B 28 JUL 96
Disneyland is not shaped like Mickey Mouse. It is a circle with two very small roundish shapes on the sides, and since the addition of Toontown, also has a large circle at the top middle. If it were a Mickey, it'd have to be Mickey with shrunken, deformed ears and a huge bump on his head.
WISHFUL THINKING: Meg 29 JUL 96
  2. When looking at Disneyland from above, facing Sleeping Beauty Castle, the Matterhorn, Big Thunder Mountain, and the castle put together look like a giant Mickey face.
    REPORTED: anon 25 JAN 97
    WISHFUL THINKING: Eric B 23 MAR 97
Sleeping Beauty's castle and Big Thunder Mountain are almost in a straight line.Look at a DL map or look at a real picture tale from an helicopter.
WISHFUL THINKING: Lauren Ferreira 12 JUL 97
  3. The Xenostrobe 10k lights located around the park (post spring 1995) used to be programmed to create large Mickeys in the sky when the park closed every evening.
REPORTED: Tony Crescenzo 21 FEB 96
The lights that used to shine straight up from Videopolis (Now the Sony Theater, where Pocahontas is playing) used to form a perfect Mickey when the marine layer clouds came in.
CONFIRMED: Ed Johnston 25 OCT 96
The big search lights around the park are 7k Xenon Moving lights from a company called Syncrolight. These are placed around the park in five places but do not create the image of Mickey in the sky except to those with imaginations larger than Walt's. These lights were used as part of Fantasy in the sky, and are now used only as mood lighting in between the large shows. (They turn off during any of the big shows).
WISHFUL THINKING: Jeff 26 OCT 96
This is to update my report made in February about the "10k Xenoscans" and one of it's confirmations. The 10ks are in fact the 7ks, but the use of them at the beginning of Summer 1995 did include a Mickey design, either by accident or design, over several of the lands. In subsequent visits, I have not seen them repeat the pattern. And yes they are used for the Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks and in between mood lighting. The decision to discontinue the light mickeys is a mystery to me, it was an effective design concept.
UPDATE: Tony Crescenzo 28 OCT 96
I am one of the synchrolite operators and at no time has there ever been any design or image programed or done manualy. There has only been 2 shows programmed. First was for fantasy in the sky fireworks and second for "mood" lighting for the park. The only other times when something different is used is when there are press event and camera shoots at the castle (at night). For those times we aim the lights on fantasy land roofs (total 6) at the spires to back light the castle. I have been there since installing the synchros with several other techs. Hopefully this will settle this "Mickey" image some people make themselves see becuase they think there are "hidden" mickeys everywhere. We simply have move important things to do with our time (primarily just trying to keep the lights running - a constant maintenence every night)

Note: Note a true Hidden Mickey but fun!
  5. Look under your feet as you walk though Disneyland. Manhole covers are decorated with the traditional Hidden Mickey.

  2. As you pass under the railroad berm to enter the Park, there are framed posters on the walls on either side of you. The poster for Snow White's Scary Adventures has one large oval in the center and four small ovals at each corner. Since they aren't perfectly round it may be questionable, but I think the center and top two form a very good Hidden Mickey. I have a picture of it, but because it's so out of focus, I didn't submit it here. I will, however, send a scan of it to anyone who e-mails me asking for it.
REPORTED: Amie Babineau 02 DEC 96
The Snow White's Scary Adventure poster has four circles surrounding the bigger inner circle. Not for purists.
CONFIRMED: Frank Carrillo 05 JAN 97

As you first walk into the park, you go under the small tunnel with pictures of the most popular rides. One of them is Snow White. In the lower right hand corner is a picture of the witch and some water. One drop of water is a Hidden Mickey. It is just starting to drop down, and so is the left ear, but it still makes a Mickey.

CONFIRMED: Kyle Porter 05 JAN 00
When you first enter Disneyland, if you go thru the tunnel on your left side(towards city hall) there's a Hidden Mickey. It's on the very last poster on the left side. The poster is of Snow White. There is one large oval with 2 circles on top. I'm not sure if this will count since it is an oval, but it sure looked like one to me!!

  4. If you take the left entrance to Disneyland, look at the Snow White's Scary Adventure sign on the left. It bears a vague resemblance to our mousey friend.
REPORTED: Alex Koreneff 14 AUG 98
A little too vague. To paraphrase Freud, sometimes a poster is just a poster.

  5. There are no additional sounds on Main Street other than the music.
    REPORTED: W. Todd Stephenson 11 JAN 96
A recent addition mentions that the only sounds on Main Street are music. This is not quite true. There are several open windows in the side alleys that have sound stories going on behind them. From the piano teacher's window you can hear a lesson in progress. From the detective, a barking dog and the guy on the phone (?)... There are several but those are the only two I found.
    UPDATE: Allen C. Huffman 03 FEB 96
  6. There is a hotel room (at least one) on the second floor along Main Street! Which building I do not know, but I do know that Mr. Jackson and other famous celebs have stayed there overnight.
REPORTED: Shawn Kelly 10 NOV 95
No hotel room on Main Street, but Walt had an apartment above the Fire House that he used when the park first opened. He'd be there to watch people come in. Second apartment was built above Pirates, but Walt died before it was finished.

Emporium

  1. Inside the Emporium at the cash registers there is a piece of glass extending on to the counter made for decoration. 'Im not sure what its called but it is embroidered with Mickey.
REPORTED: Nathan Dayspring 26 AUG 98
The report of there being hidden Mickeys at the cash registers in the Emporium is wishful thinking. The reason for this is that one ear is smaller than the other ear. Those are nothing more than decoration. I confirmed it with one of the managers in the Emporium.

Main Street Cinema

The overturned car in Jungle Cruise with the reported Mickeys cut into the bumper is questionable. There are circles, yes, some smaller than others, so I suppose that a couple of them could qualify as Mickeys. However, the circles are not attached to one another, and could just be, in fact, a bunch of circles.

At Schwitzer Falls in the Jungle Cruise it is quite impossible for "a light from the break room" to shine on the Falls and cast a hidden Mickey. There is no break room in that area. The only light that shines on the Falls is a spot light ment to illuminate the water at night.

The "Hidden Mickey" comprised of a speedometer and two gauges is definitely not a Mickey. The two smaller circles are way too small to be ears, they're too close together, and they'd have to be right on top of Mickey's head. What's more, they aren't close enough to the speedometer to qualify.

  9. It may be kind of a stretch...maybe an over active imagination but my Family and I all agreed that it was one... It's in the long straight hallway that is used both by the people in line to get on and the people that are leaving the ride. Line people on right, leaving people on left. On the right side (as you are in line to get in) there is a large impression in the wall like it had been hit by a boulder or something... this impression is in the shape of a hidden Mickey... it's a little distorted but I think that the idea is there. It's a little less then 1/2 way down the hallway from the in line side. And is easier to see on the way out since you are farther back from it. Like I said it's a bit questionable.

New Orleans Square

General

  1. In the back of New Orleans Square near the train station there is a restroom. If you look at the scroll work holding the restroom sign, and turn your head sideways, it is clearly a Mickey. I took a picture and will post it as soon as I get it developed and scanned.

Pirates of the Caribbean

pict from hiddenmickeys.org
  1. While standing in line, right in front of the island, as the light fades in and out on the map I think i saw a hidden Mickey as the light faded out. I can't be sure, but if you stand there and watch it fade out right before it completeley disappears it seeems to form a Mickey head.
    REPORTED: anon 08 MAR 00
We watched the sign fade in and out in the sand at the inside entrance to Pirate's and watched, and watched, frankly we didn't see what you saw... so we decided that it is definately wishful thinking.

  2. There are 2 fairly new pirates pushing and pulling some treasure at the end of the ride, just before your boat goes up. On the pirate puling the rope, my husband is convinced that on the vest buttons are pictures of Mickeys....I couldn't tell. You need to be sitting on the left to get a good view. Please let me know what you think!
REPORTED: Lori & Ron Guidi 22 FEB 98
Neither of the two pirates hauling the chest up the ramp at the end of Pirates is wearing a vest.
    LOST: Belle 04 JUL 98
The pirate pulling on the rope is wearing a vest (open, with wide black and dark grey vertical stripes), but I couldn't see the buttons clearly enough.
    UPDATE: Kevin J. Donaker-Ring 27 JUL 98
We brought a flashlight into Pirates of the Carribean to confirm or disprove the Vest Button Hidden Mickey. We checked the buttons on the vest of the last live pirate you see on the attraction- the pirate pulling the treasure load out of the ride (while his companion pushes the load from beneath). The member of our party on the left side of the boat leaned over and shone the light on the pirate's vest buttons, but did not see a Mickey there. It would have been quite a cool HM, but alas...

  5. Just after the battle scene of the ship and fort. If you look at the next building on your left there is a round white light fixture hanging from the balcony. It has a black pattern of circles covering it, small and large, forming Mickey's shape.
REPORTED: Michael Del Castello Jr. 13 JUN 96
There is a light with hundreds of circles of all different sizes in random placements and I know you are bound to find a Hidden Mickey somewhere in the circles but I don't think it is a real Hidden Mickey.
    WISHFUL THINKING: Eric B 25 JUN 96
We saw the light fixture with the circle formations on it and there are definitely Hidden Mickeys on it. Not all the circles form into Hidden Mickeys but that is the beauty of it. That's how well they are hidden. Sorry, Eric, but I believe your Wishful Thinking is Wishful Thinking.
CONFIRMED: Teresa and Rick 18 AUG 96
Eric's Wishful Thinking is legit. With so many circles of so many sizes, it would be impossible to not find something that bears resemblance to Mickey. You're correct, Teresa and Rick, when you say that not all of them could qualify as Mickeys... but I don't think it's because some of them are supposed to.

The barrels tied hanging over the boat are all the same shape and size, not creating the hidden Mickey effect... They are also hanging at an angle as of Dec. 23, so although it seems to be a hidden Mickey, too much is being read into it. It's just three barrels tied to the ceiling.
WISHFUL THINKING: Emilie Anne Hill 28 DEC 97

His shadow falls to the left of him, on a doorway, where a donkey just happens to be (not easily seen in this picture). I would have to say that if there was one there before, there is not one there now. The other two characters in this scene are the singer (on the right in this picture) and an accordion player. None of the shadows appears to have any merit to them.

  10. Check out the pillow designs in the skeleton Captain's room...They have a pattern on them that sure looks like a famous mouse.
    REPORTED: Unknown 07 JAN 96
I will confirm the Hidden Mickey reported on Pirates of the Caribbean that was reported on the pillow. I am going to have to say that this is the best Hidden Mickey that I have ever seen. It's a big Mickey Head on a giant pillow on the right side of the bed if you are facing towards the bed. I can't believe I have never noticed this one before.
    CONFIRMED: Eric B 18 FEB 96
I would also like to confirm the Hidden Mickey in the Pirates of the Caribbean seen on the pillow in the captain's bedroom. The pillow is on the ground on the right side of the bed, and is very obvious when looking for it.
CONFIRMED: Jennifer Cernosek 10 APR 96
I'm confirming the Hidden Mickey in Pirates of the Caribbean in the bedside pillow. However, I think it depends on how you look at it. The pattern is really a circle with four circles around it. As my husband says, "Yeah, it's a Hidden Mickey, as long as Mickey has four ears." I was willing to ignore the bottom circles, but the way he said that made me wonder if we're really wishful thinkers on this one.
CONFIRMED: Kathleen Clark 14 MAY 96
There is certainly some kind of stitching on the pillow, yes. But as someone pointed out, it has four little circles-- extra ears?? I, too, could overlook the bottom two circles if the top two were attached, but they aren't. The pillow looks like a large circle with four little ones.
WISHFUL THINKING: Meg 17 JUN 96
Well I know that I wrote that it was the best Hidden Mickey I had ever seen in the park, but then there was the report about how it was not a Hidden Mickey because the pillow looks like a large circle with four little ones. I looked again at the pillow and noticed that it was not a Hidden Mickey. You really have to look long to see all four ears and since the boat travels so fast you might have to ride it again as I did (sometimes it looks like a Hidden Mickey, sometimes you see three ears and sometimes you see all four "ears"). I will have to change my report to Wishful Thinking.
    WISHFUL THINKING: Eric B 18 JUN 96
About the Hidden Mickey in the pillow in Pirates of the Caribbean, somebody's shifted the pillow around so that one circle is on top, one is on the bottom and two are coming out the sides, so it definitely isn't a contender anymore. However, there was a new pillow up by the skeleton on the bed (green corduroy?) that had me craning my neck around. Maybe there's hope for this one yet.
WISHFUL THINKING: Kathleen Clark 11 JUL 96
Its a real shame that the imagineers don't remove the other two "ears" because it obviously pretty cool.
NOTE: TR Shaw 18 JUN 96
There is the room with the pirate skeleton on his bed reading a map. At the foot of the bed there is a pillow with a design that looks like a Mickey. It was reported and then removed. Well, it is there now, and the way the pillow is placed (with a slight fold in the middle), the Mickey is definitely there. Everyone in my party saw it.

While waiting to ride the Haunted Mansion, my friends and I were stuck in the room with the changing paintings for about 15 minutes. I was looking at the, shall we say, paisley wallpaper. I noticed the large (about 4" across) circles in the paisley pattern. And then I saw that pattern made two small circles emanating from the big circle. And I thought, cool a hidden Mickey in the wallpaper. And then I saw that the pattern repeats. Directly above and below, all over the room. You REALLY have to look to see it. I actually had to climb over the rop to point it out to a friend. It was very crowded in the room. When everyone saw what I was pointing out, there was a collective "Oh my god". 4. This isn't a visual hidden Mickey, but an audible one. Yesterday, in the Haunted Mansion, our Doom Buggy stopped for several minutes in front of the coffin (at the beginning of the ride). In addition to the regular soundtrack, I heard the unmistakable voice of Mickey Mouse yelling "Let me out! Let me out"! This was the first time I heard this, and I suspect it's because when we stopped, the speakers in the doom buggy weren't on the entire time.
    REPORTED: anon 11 MAR 97
In response to the "audible hidden Mickey" in the beginning of Haunted Mansion coming from the coffin, you are wrong. You must not be an AP! That "Let me out of here" line has been there since the refurbishment and I believe even longer. It's not the voice of Mickey, but rather the ghost stuck in the coffin. Though I do admit it has a rather high voice, its certainly not high enough to be Mickey. Another thing: your doom buggy doesn't have to stop right in front for you to hear it, its loud enough to be heard while you're passing by. Nice try. Better luck next time.

UPDATE: Michael Martin 30 APR 96
The Mickey Mouse in the eyes is not only hard to see, but it's only visible during transition. It's not the third inverted face, but the third portrait as you leave the elevator, the Medusa (Snake-haired woman). As the painting slowly changes from a girl to Medusa the pupils of the eyes take on, only for a second or two, the full-color Mickey. The ears are there as well as the eyes and a suggestion of his nose. It's very subtle and hard to see, just as Heidi says, but it's worth it for the thrill of discovery once it's spotted.
CONFIRMED: Ed Johnston 08 JUN 96
The photo of Medusa does not contain Hidden Mickeys, we got a very long and good look at it and couldn't see a thing.
WISHFUL THINKING: Teresa and Rick 07 JUL 96
I finally found it. It's brief but there.
CONFIRMED: Theresa Kyame 07 FEB 97
We spent over 10 minutes looking and didn't find it but we found a Hidden Mickey in another location.
WISHFUL THINKING: TR Shaw, Ed Johnston, Benjamin, Julie and Bengie Rockwell and Eric B 21 APR 97
If you look at the paintings at the beginning of the Haunted Mansion ride, and look at the eyes, you will see a hidden Mickey in one of them.
CONFIRMED: Uncle Remus 09 JUN 97
In the Haunted Mansion, look at the painting of the woman who turns into Medusa. The pupil of her eyes form a Mickey-head figure when she changes from woman to Medusa (or is it just the opposite?). It happens very quickly though and you have to be very close to it to see it.
    CONFIRMED: Maxmouze 19 JAN 98
It was years ago that I was last there...but it was pointed out to me clear as day. no doubt in my mind, unless they changed the ride around.
    CONFIRMED: Marc 23 FEB 01
The pupil's in the eyes on the Haunted Mansion really are a Hidden Mickey. My father took a tour of the park and the tour leader told everyone several Hidden Mickey's in the ride. This is the one that, if you know where it is, it is pretty easy to see. It is one of the one's on the left side. They follow you so you get a good look at them when they are looking straight ahead.
    CONFIRMED: Patrick 13 APR 01
  6. Near the beginning of the ride, there are two very large flourescent spiders on webs. The first one is on the right side of the track and the second is on the left side of the track. Painted on the back of the first spider are three dots which appear to form a Mickey Mouse head.
REPORTED: George Husted 14 SEP 98
Someone reported that on the Haunted Mansion, just before you get in the buggies, there is or are Hidden Mickey's on the back of the spiders that are sitting on the web. This is Wishful Thinking considering that all the dots have spaces between them and are somewhat random. The Hidden Mickey on the back of the crab in the old submarine lagoon makes sense but the dots on the back of the spider are just another person's imagination running with them.
WISHFUL THINKING: TRMHatter 19 MAR 01
  7. By the "bride," inside you see a red light lighting up around what is supposed to be her heart, it appears to show a Hidden Mickey. Although the light doesn't light up the Mickey, when you pass it and look back you see the 2 lights forming the Mickey. I may be wrong, but my sister and I did notice it.
REPORTED: Benny Fine 18 JUL 96
The heart in the bride is hard to see if you look straight at it but if you pass it and then look at it. It is much easier to see.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame Festival of Fools

  1. pict from hiddenmickeys.org
  2. I think that I have found a hidden Mickey in the Festival of Fools. If you look towards the back of the theatre, you will see the large control tower. The tower has a large rectangular shaped window that is divided into three smaller rectangles. The two small rectangles on the side have some diamond shapes (almost cirles). There are two large diamond shapes, one on top and one on the bottom. They are seperated by two small, side by side, diamond shapes. The large one on the bottom forms the head and the two smaller one form the ears. If you look at it up close you will undoubtedly see diamonds, but the farther you stand from it the clearer the Mickey seems.
REPORTED: Ruben Rubalcaba 26 NOV 96
I don't buy this one. I see diamond shaped windows. Diamonds are a frequently used shape in the theatre.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

  1. If you manage to see the front of the Big Thunder Railroad train the engine in the front is the big circle and there are two small circles under it to the side of it (not connected) It is also up-side down, but it forms a perfect Hidden Mickey.
REPORTED: NICK NUGENT 24 APR 97
Someone reported that the front of the engine on the train on Big Thunder Railroad forms an upside down Hidden Mickey. When I got off the ride, I looked at the front while the train was still in the station and found that it is Wishful Thinking. There are spaces between the circles and the two small circles are too small!
WISHFUL THINKING: TRMHatter 19 MAR 01 pict from hiddenmickeys.org
  2. On the second hill you climb on the ride, look to your left on the ground. There is a large wheel with two smaller wheels attached to it forming an upside down Mickey.

WISHFUL THINKING: Meg 17 JUN 96
As you go up to the Outside Mountain (up to where the goat is eating dynomite) On the ground on the left hand side are 3 wheels or some sort of mining gears. There is one large and 2 small they form Mickey.
CONFIRMED: Michael Del Castello Jr. 08 JUL 96
Those items near the goat were left there by mistake.
WISHFUL THINKING: Trader Sam 13 JUL 96
The gears are not official, we just moved them around to mess with people.
    CONFIRMED: Adam 26 JUL 96
As you enter, you first go into a barn like structure and if you look staight ahead you can see on the floor next to the wall a piece of mining equipment that has three wheels with cogs on them. If you turn your head to the left you can clearly make out that the wheels (gears) make a Mickey face pattern with the face and the two ears..... CONFIRMED: Jenni Powell 17 AUG 96
WISHFUL THINKING: Ed Johnston 11 SEP 96
  3. After passing the mill, you will make a left turn going towards the turnstiles. There are also water fountains at this turn. There is a staircase on the right side which takes the crew members to the operation deck. There is a lantern hanging below the deck, to the right of the stairs. There is a knob located on this particular lantern, which we didn't find on too many others, which is placed directly in between the many circles above the knob, which looked like a Hidden Mickey.

  4. Near the beginning of the ride as you climb the first big hill towards the waterfall, look down to the left at the three big pools of water!
REPORTED: John Jerabek 05 APR 96
    WISHFUL THINKING: Eric B 04 MAY 96
Shaped pools near the beginning of the ride, I wasn't very impressed. Again, comparable to Mickey, but any three circles-- one big, two slightly smaller-- put together in the same place are going to look something like America's favorite mouse.
WISHFUL THINKING: Meg 17 JUN 96 pict from hiddenmickeys.org
  5. In line after you pass under the attraction sign you start going to your left. Right when you make that first U-turn to your right, there is a metal gear on the floor. There are 6 holes in it and 4 of them are filled. The two that are not filled form the ears for the Hidden Mickey.

  6. The Hidden Mickey I found is in Disneyland on the Big Thunder Railroad ride. While waiting in the queue, you can see two vultures on the cliffs above on the right side. One has wings that flow back and he moves them up and down. In the upward position, they form Mickey's ears and his body forms his head. It's kind of a now you see him, now you don't Mickey.

    REPORTED: jillm 06 AUG 93
In November 1995, I looked carefully for this Hidden Mickey on Tom Sawyer Island and I'm sad to report, it is most emphatically not a Mickey, but a heart-shaped arrangement of horseshoes.
WISHFUL THINKING: Mike Hungerford 24 JAN 96

Stage Door Cafe Restaurant

  1. A Hidden Mickey I remember seeing was painted on the sides of the trash receptacles in the eating area facing the Rivers of America, (We were having Mickey Pancakes). The Hidden Mickeys appear in the center of a "cluster" of "grapes".., You basically see a bunch of circles, (grapes), But the center three "grapes" form a definite Mickey! I don't know if the trash receptacles still have the grape motif on them, I seem to remember seeing "New" graphics during my last visit.

  1. Inside Sleeping Beauty Castle, as you read the story of Sleeping Beauty, one of the trees has a Mickey shape. It is two round circles connected by another round circle. Look carefully at the scene of Aurora by the trees, and you will see the image of Mickey in the trees.
    REPORTED: Robert A. Knapp 07 JUL 96
I spent quite a bit of time looking in the two windows that have Aurora by trees, didn't see a Hidden Mickey.
WISHFUL THINKING: Wendy Park 27 AUG 96
    WISHFUL THINKING: Eric B 08 NOV 96
  2. The recent rework of Sleeping Beauty castle resulted in two trees being planted in the courtyard. One in front of the villian shop, and one in front of the christmas shop. A grated grill drain system was placed in the courtyard surrounding the trees in a octagon shape. The cutting, and placement of the eight grill sections very clearly resulted in eight hidden Hickey's on each of the grill sets. At first it appeared to be simply a cutting mistake by the installer, however, on closer examination it is clear the placement of the grates was pre-determined.
REPORTED: Tom Goins 15 APR 96
The grillwork on the trees in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle looks like wishful thinking to me. I can see how it might be mistaken for a Mickey, but the circles are all the same size and therefore they can't be a Hidden Mickey.

Alice in Wonderland

  1. As you are walking towards the ride, from the Matterhorn Side, there is a large mushroom next to the crew member controlling the ride. There is a book on top of the mushroom which has a picture of a birthday cake. If you look at the icing on the cake, there could be 2 Mickey's. The dark pink circles are the ears, and the lighter pink icing connecting the two dark circles form the head. We know this one is questionable, so we want someone else to look at it also.

The one on the stem of the big mushroom in front of the Alice in Wonderland ride is total Wishful Thinking. I looked at the stem and the circles are too far apart! CONFIRMED: Jaime 05 FEB 97
As one stands in line for It's A Small World, look at the three round towers in which the ride operators sit. You will see a round, large-diameter tower in the center (on the right as you are in line) and two, round smaller-diameter towers to the left (the ears). If you stand on the hills to the right of It's A Small World (you must get permission from a CM to do this) you will see a giant hidden Mickey made from the three round towers. I didn't get a chance to measure the "face" but the "face" with the "ears" together are approximately 15 feet across.

Matterhorn Bobsleds

  1. Ok the madahorn mountian itself is a hidden mickey!! You have to be on ground level to see it though. If you stand right in front of the Alica In Wonderland ride and look up at the mountian the you see to whole which make up his eyes and then you see his noise a couple rocks below it and then you look at the bottom of the mountain and it is where the cars come out and that makes his mouth. Then you look back up to where the eyes are and look aboe it and you see big lightly colored brown rocks spread out and they make his ears. Then the rest of the white mountain makes up his hat and its like mickey from fantasia. its really hard to see but once you do youll never miss it! You gotta have an imagination

  4. Outside Splash Mountain, there is a wooden bridge overhead for the train. On this bridge is a water barrel and two fire buckets hanging on the side of the water barrel. When viewed directly from above or below, there is a Hidden Mickey. The barrel is Mickey's face and the two fire buckets are Mickey's ears.
    REPORTED: Bonnie V. Bailey 26 JUL 96
Ears are too high on his head.
WISHFUL THINKING: Wendy Park 27 AUG 96
OK, on this one, I can see both sides of the argument. Yeah, the sizes are right, the location is good, as you may note, when viewed from below, all you see is the slats that the barrels sit on. From above, yeah, I could see it working, but I don't think you can even see that from the train. You would probably have to ask Tinkerbell to fly over it to doublecheck!

I think the fire water barrel is a hidden Mickey and not Wishful Thinking. The hidden Mickey can clearly be seen from the train as it goes over the bridge. Thanks for providing an above picture so that other's can confirm as well.

    REPORTED: Ric 02 JAN 98
    CONFIRMED: Pianoman 17 FEB 98
The supposed Mickey on the fin of the Astro Orbiter rocket could be Taurus the bull, in keeping with the astrology theme in the New Tomorrowland.
WISHFUL THINKING: Tangaroa Jr. 21 MAY 98
The tailfin icon on the Astro Orbitor car (the one there is a photo of) is not a Mickey, it is the zodiac sign for Taurus the bull.
WISHFUL THINKING: Ghost Host 21 MAY 98
Regarding the Hidden Mickey on the back of one of the Asto Orbitors...this is NOT a Mickey! All of the Astros have a sign of the Zodiac on them!
    WISHFUL THINKING: Big J 26 MAY 98
On the Astro-Orbiter, it is not a Hiddne Mickey that you see on the rockets. It is, in fact, one symbol of the zodiac. There are 12 rockets on the ride, and each has a different sign of the zodiac on it.
WISHFUL THINKING: Beauty and the Beast 01 JUN 98
On Astro Orbiter, there is a hidden Mickey on one of the tailfin on a rocket. Its not a complete round Mickey but it is a hidden Mickey. It looks futuristic. Straight lines mostly. But I asked a couple of cast memebers and the comfirmed it.

It looks to me as if the smaller bumps are slightly larger on the Disneyland one than the one in Star Wars, but their spacing is still off. Maybe an Imagineer tried to make a Hidden Mickey, but realized that die hard Star Wars fans would be upset (look at the silver leg incident), so left the positioning the old way.
WISHFUL THINKING: Scott M. Leonard 19 MAR 97
The hidden Mickey on C3PO Chestplate is not a hidden Mickey. I'm a die hard fan of Star Wars. I saw a picture of C3PO on one of the Star Wars Books. His design for Star Tours and Star Wars is the same. The wasn't any changes to him at all. The imagineers did a good job keeping him how the way he should be.

On Star Tours, before you board the ship, a pre-boarding announcement is given by a young lady with an interesting hair style. The style is shaped like our famous friend Mickey.
CONFIRMED: Theodore J Calcaterra and Nick Atonna 01 DEC 96
In Star Tours, during the "briefing" video, note the hair style on the host of the briefing video. She has black hair, pulled into a strange bun on one side of her head. The bun is in the shape of two balls. Basically, her hair is in the distinct shape of Mickey! You do, however, have to tilt your head sideways to see it. (It's in this position--> 80 )
    CONFIRMED: J.J. Julian 10 DEC 96
When you are boarding Star Tours there is this really bizarre looking woman with a really bizarre hairdo in the video you see right before you board the ride. She has three circles in the hairstyle that may form a Hidden Mickey! I remember seeing this, but I haven't double checked it... I'm sure someone here could do the honors ;)
CONFIRMED: Monique VandenBerg 11 JAN 97
I hate to say this, but that woman in the Star Tours video in the waiting area is sporting a Hidden Mickey hairdo. Find me anyone, ever, who has worn their hair like that.
CONFIRMED: Theresa Kyame 19 JAN 97
There is a Hidden Mickey just before you get onto the ride. In the video that is shown before you enter the ride, check out the lady's hair style. It is in a very obvious shape as a Hidden Mickey.
    CONFIRMED: Andy & Farrah 13 FEB 97
The person with a hairdo that looks like a Hidden Mickey is not what you think it is. In the movie, Star Wars, Princess Leia has a hairdo that looks the same as the person. They are just imitatiing this hairdo.

  6. If you look at Rex's (The robot pilot of the ride) face you will notice that his mouth and eyes make up a Hidden Mickey. Of course, the circles are not connected but if you look at his face straight on when he turns to you, it can be seen.
REPORTED: John McKoy 25 DEC 96
Captain Rex's face does indeed have three separated circles, but there is no way that they are even close to being a Hidden Mickey.

The NASA Space Experience Exhibit

  1. pict from hiddenmickeys.org
  2. There is a mural above the new NASA display area, across from Star Tours. The mural depicts various attractions at Tomorrowland, past and present. There are two "molecules" near the center of the display, represented by three circles connected with lines. The molecule on the left is two large circles with a small circle. The molecule on the right is two small circles with a large circle in a triangle -- a Hidden Mickey.

The mural outside and above the NASA Space Experience has a Hidden Mickey that is made up of two small circles and one large circle connected by lines. Wishful Thinking Fun Facts

General

  1. I am just writing to confirm reposts about Landscape Maintance at Disneyland. It is true that they replant the giant Mickey in the front of Main Street every night. There is one guy who does it every night. Not only that but you will never see any dead grass or even slightly brown grass. Most of the sod in Dineyland is pulled and replanted every week. The reason I know all of this is from a presentation on internships in Enviromental Horticulture at the park. The Supperintendent, who is a very nice lady, told us these little secrets.
    REPORTED: Nick O'Neill 19 FEB 96
Someone reported that the giant Mickey is replanted every night. This is not so. If you go every weekend, like one Saturday and then Sunday you can tell that it is the same plants. You can tell when they do replant it because they are very small plants and it looks kind of bare. It says that it gets replanted every month in the book "Mouse Tales - A Behind The Scenes Look At Disneyland" and I would say that is about right. As for the flowers throughout the Magic Kingdom, they don't get replanted as much, about once every two and a half months.
    UPDATE: Eric B 18 FEB 96
I checked in Disney.com and it says that they replant the giant Mickey 9 times a year.
    UPDATE: Eric B 17 MAR 96

Haunted Mansion

  1. The Haunted Mansion contains three separate references to the works of Edgar Allen Poe. The woman trying to come up from her coffin is Madeline Usher from "The Fall of the House of Usher" who is buried alive and breaks out of her coffin. The man whose hand is coming out of a brick wall is from the Cask of Amontillado, where a man is sealed into a brick wall. And of course, "The Raven" from the famous poem. There could be more, but I haven't noticed any!
REPORTED: Monique VandenBerg 11 JAN 97
Madeline Usher from "The Fall of the House of Usher" is more than likely not the body in the conservatory coffin. Although that would make a very appropriate "Poe-like" reference, the corpse is not a woman. As the Ghost Host says, "All our ghosts have been dying to meet you; this one can hardly contain HIMself," referring to the man in the coffin. The cries for help coming from the coffin are also of a male voice. Sorry.
WISHFUL THINKING: Jed 09 APR 97
I have to agree -- these "Poe" references are mere wishful thinking. In "The Cask Of Amontillado," the unfortunate fellow who was sealed into an underground catacomb was manacled to the far wall and walled in by another man -- not by himself and not in an above-ground tomb, as we see by the arm waving the trowel outside of the brick wall in the Mansion. And as for the raven...oh, come ON! Ravens and crows are as part of the expected atmosphere of a "gloomy graveyard" as are bats and spiders. Unless that bird says "Nevermore," it ain't no Poe reference, folks. ;)
WISHFUL THINKING: anon 21 APR 97
  2. In the Haunted Mansion, when you go by the five singing busts in the library, I could swear that one of those (I think it's the one with the head broken off) is Walt Disney himself.
REPORTED: Kevin Barrett 10 JUL 95
    CONFIRMED: scix1 18 JUL 95
Sorry this took so long but here are the names of the five singing busts in the Haunted Mansion: Thurl Ravenscroft (voice of Tony the Tiger), Jay Meyer, Verne Rowe, Bob Ebright, and Chuck Schroeder. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find out their relationship with Walt or the company. One of these guys does resemble Walt so it is easy to understand why people think he is one of these busts.
WISHFUL THINKING: Terry Coopers 25 OCT 95
  3. You will see the ghost of a bride, and if you are sharp enough to notice it, she is wearing no ring. After the ride, in one of the stones outside, there is cemented in a wedding ring: the brides'.
    REPORTED: anon 25 JUL 96
There is no way to tell that the bride is not wearing a ring, because she is carrying flowers in her left hand which obscure her fingers. We looked in the stones outside the exit until a cast member told us to beat it, and we saw no ring.
WISHFUL THINKING: Tangaroa Jr. 20 JUL 97
The bride's ring that is supposedly cast into one of the stones at the Haunted Mansion exit is found at WDW only. The Disneyland version doesn't have it (or, if it does, it's been very cleverly concealed).
WISHFUL THINKING: GraveyardGirls 06 AUG 97
This is about the supposed ring outside Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. I looked for about twenty minutes for the ring in the stone, and couldn't find it. In fact, there are no stones of that color outside of DISNEYLAND'S Haunted Mansion. I then figured it out. That picture was taken at WALT DISNEY WORLD'S MAGIC KINGDOM, not Disneyland. In fact, if you look at the Fun Facts about Disney World (on this same Web Page), you see the same picture, and having been to Walt Disney World, I remember that those stones were of a different color than that of Disneyland's (in order to fit into the location of the Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion, Liberty Square). So, don't go looking for a ring outside Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, because you won't find it.
WISHFUL THINKING: Christopher Douglas 12 AUG 97
  4. The wall paper looks like another Hidden Mickey.
REPORTED: Heather Gutowski & Julie 16 JUL 96
The wallpaper in the Haunted Mansion does not make a Mickey.
WISHFUL THINKING: Jed 16 JUL 96
One of the eyes on the wallpaper is substituted by Mickey. It is one of the last ones near the end of the wallpaper. Before you enter the room with the crystal ball. The doombuggy makes you face the other way. You would have to look behind the buggy to see.
CONFIRMED: David Vo 22 JUL 96

Club 33

  1. The reason why Club 33, has an address, is because a legal street address was required for the liquor permit. Walt was not going to put Disneyland's address down for that!
REPORTED: Jonathan Reuel 07 JUN 96

Star Tours

  1. Star Tours has been accepted into the Star Wars timeline! I know there are several continuity errors, it safe to say that the battle shown during Star Tours (despite the Death Star trench run) is the Battle for Endor. In 'Star Wars: Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina' in a story called 'One Last Night In the Mos Eisley Cantina', one quote describes the comm signals when the shield went down: "General Calrissian's voice broke up with static. "We're on our way!" Raw cheering voices. Human and Bothan. Mon Calamari and Bith. Even a droid who announced that it always wanted to do this." I thought it was odd that a droid wanted to go into battle. It was, for it was our malfuntioning friend Captain Rex from Star Tours!
    REPORTED: Scott M. Leonard 21 MAR 97
I always thought it was strange in the Star Wars story One Last Night in the Mos Eisley Cantina that a droid was quoted as saying he'd always wanted to do this. Now I can confirm it's from Star Tours.
CONFIRMED: Stacy Hartman 04 APR 97
Concerning Star Tours being accepted into Star Wars continuity; that is false. There is no way that Star Tours can fit into either the Battle of Endor or the Battle of Yavin. several reasons:
    1. The death star is fully complete.(If memory serves) therefore it can't be the battle of endor in which the Deathstar is only half complete.
    2. During the battle of Endor there is a fleet of Star Destroyers very close to the Deathstar (Close enough for the Executer to crash into it.)
    3. Also there is a fleet of rebel cruisers engaging the DeathStar. Not just X-Wings and Y-Wings but Corellian Corvettes and Mon Cal Cruisers. these would also have been quite visible.
    4. Artoo is your navigator/co-pilot during Star Tours. During the battle of Yavin, Artoo is with Luke in his X-Wing. During the Battle of Endor, Artoo is on Endor helping Han Solo.
    5. If it had been the battle of Endor, we would have flown into the DeathStar with the Falcon to destroy it: not through the trench.
    6. The Deathstar would have fired at leat one blast before Rex supposedly destroyed it if it were the battle of Endor. The Deathstar laser only takes one minute to recharge before it can fire upon another spacegoing vessel(Star Wars technical journal Vol.2)

WISHFUL THINKING: TwigFace 31 MAY 97
I would like to set the story straight about the Death Star and the Star Tours ride. The story goes, after Return of the Jedi the Rebelion gained knowledge of an innopperable prototype for the Death Star. In which several Imperial contractors built to show the power and magnitude of a giant planet destroying space station. After the destructioon of the other two, the empire decided to relocate to this prototype station (which was quite a bit smaller than its predecessors. The rebellion found out about this, and decided to destroy this one as well.
WISHFUL THINKING: Jon Smith 05 OCT 97
Someone was saying that the Death Star in the Star Tours ride was the prototype Death Star. This is untrue. The Prototype Death Star was nothing more that the Super Laser, and the Exo-Skeleton to support it.
WISHFUL THINKING: David C. Shadle 30 NOV 97
Just wanted to confirm the report about The reference to Rex in the Book Tales from the Cantina. It's located on page 387, 4th from the last paragraph. All of the comments on this item are, in fact, true, but don't you think it's obvious that Mr. and Mrs Reeves-Stevens (the authors of the short stories) had to have been to Star Tours and written that part based on Rex... No, Star Tours does not really fit into the true Star Wars timeline because it is really a combination of the two attacks on the Death Star. The attack is like the first mission, if Luke hadn't been the one to destroy it, but the position of the Death Star is like the second mission and the position of the 'new' Death Star. However, I can't hellp but believe that the authors of the story wrote in Rex... I wouldn't have been sold except for the fact that the quoted him as saying he'd always wanted to do that.
