In an unprecedented move, the Walt Disney
Co. is removing a film from its release schedule because of its
violent content and is quietly shopping it to other studios. What
makes the move even more surprising is that the film - "Duets" - is
in the can, was scheduled for release on May 5 and one of its stars
is Academy favorite Gwenyth Paltrow. "Duets," which Bruce Paltrow
(Gwenyth's father) helmed in his feature film directorial debut,
follows three characters who travel the country on their way to a
karaoke competition in Omaha, Neb. The film also stars Maria Bello,
Andre Braugher, Huey Lewis, Paul Giamatti and Scott Speedman.
Treasure Planet, an animated science-fiction version of 'Treasure Island' has
been tentiatively scheduled for the year 2000. John Musker
and Ron Clements, the director-writer team behind 'Aladdin' and
'The Little Mermaid,' are expected to handle 'Treasure'.
There are 2 new movies starring Mickey, Goofy and Donald that
will be released to theaters. These 2 movies will also feature Minnie
(currently there is no mention of Pluto, Pete, Scrooge, the Nephews or
Daisy, though).Name of the Movies are unknown at this time.

Atlantis and Kingdom of the Sun are an upcoming features, I saw a small
selection of production art for it. looks very cool. Atlantis is just that,
an underwater city, some cool designs for a robot character and an alien?
well, some sort of strange creature, anyway. I'm not sure what Temple is
about, but there were production designs with Aztec style pyramids.

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr.Toad will be released in early 1999 as a 50th
anniversary Limited Edition Video. Other videos due out in '99 are 101
Dalmations, Mulan, and Beauty and the Beast after its November '98 rerelease
into theatres.
"Another Toy Story" will be released Direct-To-Video this November (1998), while "A Bug's Life" will be released Theatrically. Both films are computer-animated, and are by Pixar (The characters from "A Bug's Life" can be seen in the 4-D film, "It's Tough To Be A Bug!" which is currently being shown only at the Tree of Life Theater in Disney's Animal Kingdom, by the way). "Another Toy Story" will supposedly have a plotline involving Woody being "obtained" by a Collector of rare toys. When Buzz tries to rescue him, will Woody want to leave his life of luxury? Tim Allen and Tom Hanks will reprise their roles as Buzz Lightyear and Woody.

Lady and the Tramp: September 15, 1998
I just read an article in "Supermarket News," dated March 23, 1998, detailing
Buena Vista Home Entertainment's decision to re-release the Disney classic
"Lady and The Tramp," which has not been on video since it's one and only
release in 1986. It will the out on September 15th, with a SRP of $26.99.
The classic has been digitally remastered and restored. Trailers for the re-
release will be included on "The Little Mermaid" re-release. There will also
be a special collector's set which will feature the wide-screen version and a
premium, and a Spanish version will also be available. This is very exciting,
especially since the only way my young nephews have been able to view the
classic has been through a Greek version I had located by fluke.
Have a great time reviewing this great Disney classic! I honestly cannot
wait!
