Last rehab on July 2006. Pirates

  1. Coming this July, a change will be occuring at both Disneyland Anaheim and Walt Disney World and Mickeys may be lost. Pirates of the Caribbean is closed for a makeover. They will now be featuring essence from the movies. Jack Sparrow, Barbossa, and Davy Jones will be featured throughout the ride. Pretty sure it will be a none-changing thing, unlike Nightmare Before Christmas Haunted Mansion. Just hope it turns out for the best.

  2. In loading area -- upside down lights make Hidden Mickey.
REPORTED: Alanna Pasquale 20 DEC 96

  3. As you enter the building on the wall on the left about 3 feet up there is a profile of Mickey's face in the plaster
REPORTED: Cindy Hyde 09 JAN 97
  4. In the right queue when you are almost to the boats there is a metallic Mickey embedded in the floor in the pavement.

  5. If you take the line to the right. as your walking down the slope to your boat, if you look to the right you iwll notice a treasure chest on top of 2 barrels. The lock on this treasure chest is a hidden mickey.
REPORTED: Corey Housman 24 FEB 06
  6. As you take the line to the left. There is a pit on your left that has numerous barrels in it. As you look directly down on the barrels in the lower left corner closest to the line they form a Hidden Mickey
REPORTED: The Bordens 19 APR 98
If you look to the left corner there is a hidden Mickey carved into the barrel

  7. In the area just behind boat loading point, the second group of cannonballs includes a large ball and two smaller ones.
REPORTED: The Blanchette Family 22 JUN 97
CONFIRMED: Amanda Eldred and Neil Whiteman 09 JUL 00
  8. In the right loading area, just before the Cast Member is about to ask you "how many in your party", there is a lamp about waist level on the ramp wall to the left. It has 4 white glass panels with some darker random patterns in the glass to make it look old. The panel facing the line up the ramp has the 3 circle pattern slightly tilted but all circles are the right size, thus making it a Hidden Mickey.
REPORTED: Mario Hidalgo 08 SEP 97
  9. Before you board the boats to the ride, in line on your right hand side of the final ramp to the boarding area there is a lamp held to a post with an iron ring---the ring is shaped as Mickey. The other lamps in the area do not have this same Mickey shaped ring holding the lamps to their posts.

  10. Right after you load onto the boats, you go straight ahead. Right before you make the first right turn, look straight ahead at the wall. It seems as if the entire center of the wall is carved with a giant tri-circle Mickey. The shadows make it hard to see, but also the shadows also help to form the Hidden Mickey. It is clearly visible just as your boat begins the ride before the first right hand turn. It is created from shadows as well as the wall itself.

  11. At the beginning when you are going through the cave with stalgmites. Its the first place on the right that you see a stalagemite and stalagtite together (that is, one poking down from above, and one coming up from below that almost touch) The one on the bottom appears to have a Mickey face, features and all! You have to look right away, when the formation can first be seen. As you go by it, you can't really see it.
REPORTED: Selena Parisher 15 MAR 99
  12. At the very beginning of the ride just before the skeleton scene, I spotted a hidden Mickey formed by three connecting stalagtites. As your boat is making the right turn to approach the skeleton scene, look up to the left on the ceiling. There are three stalagtites, one large connected to two smaller ones. The bases of these stalagtites are roughly circular and serve as the connecting point, thus forming a hidden Mickey. I spotted this and then confirmed it with someone else in our party during a second time around on the ride.
REPORTED: James Cameron 14 AUG 00
  13. When you go through the tunnel that takes you to the fight scene, look on the right side wall. About two-thirds of the way through, at eye-level, you'll see a Hidden Mickey made from the shadows. It's only good if you see it from a distance.
    REPORTED: Jaycub 25 FEB 97
  14. When you enter the room with the pirate ship and the fort, if you watch the third hole -- I think -- in the wall of the fort on your right), it eventually takes the shape of Mickey for a second then it gets distorted and becomes a hole again.
REPORTED: Jason Baker 02 DEC 95
In the Pirate ship scene, after you have passed the ship, just as you are turning to the right, look at the wall of the fort directly in front of you. The shadows reveal that there is a Mickey built out of the wall about 5 feet above the water, the Mickey is about 2 or 3 feet in diameter.
REPORTED: Nancy Henning 08 APR 02
  15. One of the producers of "The Simpsons" pointed this one out to me, and said Tim Disney told it to her. As you pass the ship where the captain is brandishing his sword and firing cannonballs over your head, his shadow is thrown up on the mainsail. As the captain turns, his shadow turns into you-know-who. Especially blatant at Disneyland it's also effective at Walt Disney World. Although it's not a really clear Mickey when seen from the front. The "ears" are more like tall skinny humps on top of a roughly round shadow. At one point in the sequence, the humps get a little wider and the whole thing looks reasonably like a Mickey. The Mickey is much clearer when you look at the other side of the sail. As you go past the sail continue watching and the elongated shapes that are somewhat suspect in the original shadow become a well formed Mickey head on the reverse side of the sail. Timing is key. The pirate is a moving figure, so his shadow only makes a hidden Mickey when he turns the right way.
Real Hidden Mickey See the WDW List and the list of contributors
Note: I am no longer taking reports on this one unless there is a refurb and the Imagineers change this effect.
I hate to say it, but I believe this has been lost. The captain doesn't seem to turn as much as he used to, and I haven't been able to see the Mickey shape in my last several trips to the Caribbean.
LOST: Melanie Emmons 08 FEB 99
The hidden Mickey on the main sail of the Pirate Ship is partially back! Everyone comments on the "ears".. Well, they are there and so is the side view of Mickey if you will. It's just that you really have to watch the sail. The ears are a bit too long though but otherwise, he is there.
    CONFIRMED: Sandra N Justin 23 DEC 99
On Pirates of the Carribean in the scene where the pirates are on the ship shooting each other there is a shadow from one of the pirates that projects onto the sail and its shadow makes a very distinct Mickey. Although it does move it appears approx every 10 seconds.
Update: Timothy Rooney 08 APR 00
  16. In Pirates of the Caribbean, in the scene with the pirate ship, just after you round the corner and see everyone on land, look at the last pirate before you leave the scene. He is holding three silver rings soldered in the shape of Mickey. You have to look quickly after the boat turns because he will disappear behind a tree.
REPORTED: Nancy Henning 08 APR 02
  17. I noticed a hidden Mickey in the pirate ship scene right after the drop. In the background in back of the ship, there is a set of clouds that clearly resembles Mickey Mouse.

  18. When the boat has just gone down the waterfall and is going between the firing boat and the fort on the shore, wait until you 'round the corner' heading towards the dunking scene. Then look on the wall to the left, the part of the fort that was (until the boat turned) straight ahead of you. Under the last cannon on the right is a perfect hidden Mickey in the stone. You cannot see it when the boat is heading right for that part of the fort, you need to wait until the turn.
REPORTED: Robert Fredette 07 FEB 01
  19. When you enter the room where the pirates are dunking "Thomas" in the well, there is a small boat docked on the side flying a Jolly Roger. The bottom right hand corner of the flag (what would be the end of the cross bones) appears to be a Hidden Mickey.
REPORTED: Melissa Heilman 24 JUN 96
We were on the ride when it broke down and the work lights came on. The flag is clearly a plain flag.

  20. This one has been moved back and forth between two spots. It is on a pirate's tin mug. The mug is either with the drunk pirate and two cats or more likely with the pirate who is sitting on the bridge. Don't concentrate so much on his hairy legs but his drinking mug. In the middle of a crest on the mug is a hidden Mickey!

As you are going under the 1st bridge with the pirate sitting on top of it turn and look over your right shoulder. On the right back wall of that section there you will see a Mickey silhouette. I think it is the shadow of the pirate's hat.

  22. You can also see a lamp in the shape of a Mickey head on Pirates of the Caribbean next to the three singing pirates when you enter their party. Boy I love those guys.

  23. As you pass through the "Buy a Bride" segment, turn to your right and watch the donkey for the entire time you are in the room. The shadow of his ears make a perfect Mickey head on the wall behind. You must watch the donkey through the entire segment or you will not see it. Most likely, for this reason, no one has seen it to date.

  25. In one of the last scenes where a man is in the corner with a bunch of pigs, and a drunken sailor hanging over the edge, as you are about to enter the next scene look up almost through the drunken pirates feet and at the ceiling, and very faintly you will see a Hidden Mickey.
REPORTED: Justin Bourgeois 09 MAY 98
  26. Just across from the pirate with the pigs, there is a shield with a Mickey in the center.
    REPORTED: Vic 28 JUN 00
  27. Near the very end of the ride when these drunk sailors are shooting at you there's also a bunch of barrels (three barrels). If you look at there barrels just right they look kind of like the Mickey symbol.

  28. In the last scene, where the soldier is tied up and the gold room is open, there are two Hidden Mickeys on the floor in front of the men. Two different sized coins are used for the head and ears, and all the coins touch.
REPORTED: Bryan Warman 25 APR 96
  29. In the Treasure room in the last scene there are three gold plates that form a Hidden Mickey placed on the floor. These plates lie behind the pirate with his legs draped over the shoulder of another pirate and in front of the tied-up soldiers inside the castle.

  30. When you get to the jail cells, the lock on the cell door looks exactly like a hidden Mickey. Every time I ride Pirates of the Caribbean I find myself wondering "Is it or isn't it?". It is near the end of the ride in the jail scene, where the pirates are trying to get the keys from the dog. The padlock on the door has a strange Mickey-like shape.

The jail locks have been discussed on this list before and, while the shape is Mickey-like, they're really not a Mickey. The ears would be too long and skinny.
WISHFUL THINKING: Melanie Emmons 25 SEP 98
The lock on the jail cell towards the end of the ride is in the shape of Mickey and was pointed out to us by one of the cast members who informed us that all the locks are Hidden Mickeys.

  31. In the last scene, the Treasure scene, under the lanterns there are upside-down Mickey heads.
    UPDATE: Kalyani 28 FEB 06
  32. In the final scene of the ride, there are several lamps hanging on the walls and columns of the room displaying a flickering candle effect. The iron works at the bottom of all of these lamps are twisted to show the traditional Hidden Mickey. Best place to view is right before you make the left-hand turn to the unload dock, look to the column on your left. The are actually the smallest hidden Mickey in the park. There is one other one of the same size at Epcot. However, there is a smaller one at Animal Kingdom.

  33. In the last scene in Pirates of the Caribbean right before you unload, there is a Hidden Mickey on the stone wall just past the gold room. Find the Torch hanging on the wall and follow it straight up. You will come to 3 stones in the shape of a Hidden Mickey. There were 3 other people with me that saw it. Let me just say I spen the entire day trying to find a Hidden Mickey on every ride and that is the only one I saw! Its hard work and its addicting!

  34. There are two hidden Mickey's side by side in Pirates of the Caribbean in the Davy Jones Locker scene just before unload. There are two lamps, one mounted on each side of the large entryway into the "treasure room" The two lamps cast Mickey shadows UPSIDE DOWN, check it out...

  35. On Pirates of the Caribbean, I think it's neat the end, one of the pirates is wearing a watch. The watch is actually a watch that has Mickey on it. The Mickey is very hard to see, but a cast member told me it was a Mickey when I went on one of the tours.

  36. In the Treasure room right as you are exiting the room there are a lot of pearl necklaces on the ground on the left. If you are riding the ride, it may just seem like a clump of pearls. If you raise your head a little, some of the Pearls are in a Mickey. It is right as you are about to go into the exit area for the ride.

  37. As you are leaving the treasure scene and moving into unload, there is a dinghy tied to the wall. The rope attached to the wall points to a Mickey. It looks a little like a paint splat and is a bit hard to see in the dim light. I have worked at Pirates for 2 years now and many cast have confirmed this one.

  38. While at the store, my cousin noticed that at the end of each row of tiles on the roof there is a decorative piece. Each piece has a picture of a bird carrying a string with three small balls attatched at the bottom. The balls are in such a shape that they appear to be Mickey.
    REPORTED: Mark 14 JUL 99
  39. There is a tiny little shack back stage that is used to store paint in. There is a small paint bench outside where you are supposed to test the paints. Among the shapes made by the cast members were a peace sign, a skull and crossbones, and a tri-circle Mickey Mouse!
    REPORTED: Fish 18 APR 99
The "paint shed" is not at the Jungle. I will admit it is next to the Amazon river section of Jungle, but it is technically a part of Pirates backstage area. I can not confirm if there are hidden Mickeys there, I never took the time to notice.
